So today I finally had a day off (feels like it's been years), and due to a lack of friends (whatever those are), my day mainly involved cleaning my room, cleaning my fish's tank, watching a lot of TV (Spongebob in particular), drinking several cans of soda, and... yeah, that's about it.
Right now, I'm contemplating a float I made with Pepsi and vanilla ice cream. What I really wanted was to go get some mint-chip from Rite Aid, but I was forced to settle for this Breyers vanilla we had at home. Sorry Breyers, but you guys make pretty lame ice cream. [Your mint-chip tastes like toothpaste, btw.]
Does anyone else think that soda in cans kind of tastes like aluminum? I've been drinking a lot of soda at work, and this canned stuff at home tastes oddly metallic.
Also, is it weird that I've never had a float? I don't like root beer, so I guess that's why. But we sell floats at Gibson, and I wanted to try one. Maybe I'll get one there sometime. This one tastes funny.
Aluminum.
I've been plotting interesting combinations of ice cream and soda. I think coke and chocolate or chocolate chip sounds good, but a girl I work with thought that sounded really weird. Hmmm. One time someone got Sprite with mocha almond fudge ice cream. That was pretty bizarre.
Anyway, I just started rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone... it's so good! I never have time to read, but I've still been fantasizing about rereading the entire series this summer. I would be shocked if it actually happened though. I'm pretty terrible about reading these days.
Been in a Flight of the Conchords mood lately too. The second season (which I haven't seen because I don't have HBO) is coming out on DVD in exactly 22 days, and I've already downloaded some of the songs. I am SO excited.
Last night I was trying to draw something for a friend of mine/fellow FotC fan... it wasn't working, but I thought Jemaine turned out kind of cute xD

Of COURSE this is relevant to animation.

On Monday, I registered for my classes this fall. I'm taking Life Drawing, Life Drawing for Animation, Intro to Biological Anthropology (for my elective science credit), and... Intro to Archeology. Why? Because archeology is frickin' badass.

We'd better learn to dodge boulders and charm women, or I'll consider my time wasted.

So this particular incident didn't actually take place, but it gives you an idea of how people at Gibson are sometimes. I was scheduled there for just a few hours on Sunday... except they extended me to eight hours because a bunch of people called out.
Also, I am currently suffering from artistic angst. Major blockage/non-inspiration. My motivation for Bemma has waned a lot lately, probably the result of MY life finally being interesting.
So right now I'm eating Lucky Charms and wondering how to make art.
And waiting for Wednesday, a.k.a. BEACH DAY with my boyfriend. We're still working on not being glaringly white xD Besides, it's SO good to get out of Anaheim once in a while.
ALSO, the radio station I listen to is making a big deal about D'land tickets they're giving away... and it just makes me laugh every time I hear them talk about it. I get to be there every day. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
SO THERE.

Me: "... will that be all for you?"
Grouchy Guest: *nod*
Me: "Do you have an annual pass [for a discount]?"
Grouchy Guest: "No. I'm not from here."
Me [after a moment]: "Oh really? Where are you from?"
Grouchy Guest: "Oregon."
Me: "So are you enjoying it here?"
Grouchy Guest: "No."
Me: O__o
I wish this person was being sarcastic.
What am I supposed to SAY to that? hahaha

happy birthday to meeee

listening to: Flight of the Conchords!
So working on my b'day ended up being okay... a lot of people were like, "why are you working!? Why don't you just call in?" but my thought was, "well... what else am I going to do?" hahah. I got to hang out with my boys afterward anyway, so no biggy.
Had a couple of really cool kids come into Coke today. Talking to them really made my day.
Plus my mommy made me a birthday lunch which included a Hi-C juicebox, so life is good.
I have two days off this week, and I'm taking people to D'land BOTH DAYS. Can't remember the last time I had a day where I didn't drive down there. I must be crazyyyy xD
Also, I frakking need to DRAW something. Haven't done anything for DAYS.

I was starting to get kind of bored working at Coke all the time, but today I got sent over to Gibson for a while to help run ice cream... it kind of sucked. I think I can fully appreciate the simplicity of Coke now.
People are SO picky about their ice cream. Maybe I mentioned this before, but it is reallllyyy frustrating. One lady ordered hot fudge on an ice cream CONE, so they put it at the bottom of the cone like they always do in such cases, and she got SO pissed. At me, naturally. The person who did not take her order OR scoop the ice cream. I just have the lovely job of handing people the ice cream they will soon be dissatisfied with. After making them wait two whole minutes for it, by which time half of them are giving me dirty looks. As if they didn't just wait an hour in line for some ride... can't wait five seconds for ice cream.
///rant
But anyway, it got better when I got to go back to Coke and just be a runner for the rest of my shift. Easy-peasy.
And there was a little girl there with a birthday pin, so I talked to her for a bit and she was super sweet... and her mom got a kick out of it too, I think. You can tell people like you when they use your name when asking you for something or thanking you. haha
So that saved my night, and it ended up not being too bad.
---
In other exciting news, I finally got to go to the beach yesterday! I took Tannyr and Travis with me, since they're from out-of-state and therefore aren't very experienced with southern California beaches. Unfortunately, I LIVE here and I'm not either. Anyway, it was amazing and I got a little bit of a tan... and I think I'm going to have to go more often. It's not that bad a drive from Anaheim to Huntington.
So we beached it and then went to In'n'Out, also a very SoCal thing to do. It was delicious. OBVIOUSLY.
And my car is now full of sand.

I'm so screwed up. All I really ate today was a little bit of lunch at 2:30, and now that it's 11PM, I'm finally starting to be hungry for dinner.
If I wasn't also drinking 3 or 4 cups of Coke a day, I'd probably be thinning out.
Yummmm caffeineeeeee!!!
I have the most boring blog ever.

When I counted out tonight, I was one cent short of having a perfect cash drawer. But I had a bit of change on top of my register that people didn't take, so I probably could have gone and grabbed a penny and had my perfect drawer. That would've been awesome. Still feels pretty good though. Plus it took me like 20 minutes to get counted out, instead of almost an hour like usual... so I actually got to leave on time.
That entire paragraph probably makes very little sense, but essentially... it was a good day.
Additionally, I have tomorrow off.
YAY!

I just thought my D'land gig required an illustration.

Despite the obvious glamour of it, I really am enjoying myself for the most part. heh.

One of the other cashiers found my lost receipts this morning.
THANK YOU LORD.
And I had a bunch of nice guests today, so YAY for that! And one of the ladies I work with thinks I would be a good Mary Poppins. NO IDEA where that came from. She was like, "you look more like her than the girl who plays her!" So now when Mary and Bert are hanging out in front of Coke, I imagine myself in that dress, and it's pretty hilarious.
But there's always a ragtime pianist out in front, and he plays various Mary Poppins songs when she's around... so the past few days, I've been singing "Supercalafradjalisticexpialidocious" (did not spell that correctly AT ALL) and "Let's Go Fly a Kite" and "Feed the Birds" and "A Spoonful of Sugar" and such allll the time. My guests must think I'm incredibly weird.
He also plays one of the songs from "Thoroughly Modern Millie" (another Julie Andrews musical), and I always wonder if anyone else recognizes it xD
Also, I'm finally starting to be excited about my birthday next Saturday. Just because I'm probably going to D'land after work [at D'land] with at least one of my new buddies, maybe more of them. I think it's going to be good.
ALSO, I'm going to be getting a video camera I bought from my cousin. My aunt shipped it the other day, so hopefully it'll be here soon. I AM SO EXCITED.

Do NOT lose credit card receipts when cashiering at D'land. DO NOT.
Baaaaaaaaaaaaad.
Also, I hate rude teenagers who act like I'm an idiot because they have completely senseless ideas about money and what's going to make the change come out even.
ALSO, "I Gotta Feeling" by the Black Eyed Peas is my new favorite song, and it just saved my day.
ALSO, tonight I really need to draw or write or something. Had a huge Bemma explosion on the way to work this morning... love when that happens. One little image comes to me, and suddenly I can just SEE everything else. 1918 France is totally happening in my head. FINALLY. LET'S GET THIS WAR STARTED!!!!

Tales from D'land
Jun. 10th, 2009 | 08:40 pm
Today a 30-something couple was in my line at Coke.
I helped this younger, scruffy-looking guy, and then it was the couple's turn.
They were like, "Did you think that guy was cute?"
Me: "Uhh... haha I dunno..." (He was not. Quite definitely.)
Them: "It just looked like you were smiling at him that way."
Me: "I pretty much smile at everyone :)"
Them: "They tell you to do that, don't they."
Me: "Yeah, but I usually smile anyway..."
... [a couple of minutes later] ...
The husband: "So what kind of guys do you like, Stefi?"
Me: [Getting the drinks, trying to keep smiling]
Husband: "Blond guys... brown hair...?"
Me: "I don't really know..." [running off to grab pretzels]
Husband: "Do you have a boyfriend, Stefi?"
Wife: "Could you please hurry up with the pretzels, Stefi? Our bus is leaving soon!"
That TOTALLY wasn't weird. AT ALL.
Pretty lousy day. Didn't have any cool guests like I did yesterday. That's what makes it worth it, after all.
Except my new-ish friends came to visit me, which was awesome. Only cool thing that happened, basically. Especially since we're all too busy to hang out, and my social life is being run entirely through Facebook right now. Bleh.

TODAY I worked from 10:30 to 7, and when I got back to my car, I decided that it was necessary to return to D'land for a couple of hours.... just so that I could get dinner, buy a stuffed Donald Duck, and go get ice cream from Gibson's. Which was funny because I went up to order, and the cashier was like, "HEYYY don't you work here???"
Also, I love seeing characters backstage with their heads off. It's just so bizarre to see a human head poking out from a chipmunk body.
ALSO, I am working 6 days straight this week (all at Coke), starting on Tuesday. It comes out to a total of 47 hours. That is going to be a NICE paycheck :D
