Just a little sketch I thought was kind of cute...

And a pic taken from my phone of a life drawing I did in class last week. We were actually supposed to focus on the head this time, so it was pretty fun.

I never shared the back window of my car, did I?

This is why people at work think I'm a stalker.

HEY, speaking of which, work was really slow tonight, and I ended up chatting with my lead practically the entire time... we were talking about the Angels (and obviously Nap), and he said that Nap was at D'land a little while back! I FLIPPED. Because I figured he'd probably be there at some point, but I had this weird expectation that fate would lead him to buy ice cream from me. Or something. I really wanted to meet him xD Maybe he'll be back someday. But I'm going to try to go to spring training, so maybe I can worm my way into a meet-and-greet there. I AT LEAST need him to sign my shirt or one of my baseball cards.

pleasant update from a highly motivated individual

Nov. 8th, 2009 | 09:29 pm

Wow, I have completely abandoned my LJ, it seems. I guess it's been a few weeks since I posted. Probably. I didn't bother to actually calculate the length of time. Just guess-timating.

So I suppose what happened is that I got an iPhone, so I haven't been using my computer much... so I haven't been writing lengthy journal entries for no one to read. ADDITIONALLY, I have been too busy being sick and working and working and working and not doing any of my homework and therefore failing at life... and really not drawing anything at all for a very long time, which probably isn't good, but it doesn't help that if you stop drawing for a while, you might suddenly find that you can't draw to save your own sad life because 78% of your skillz gradually drained out of you over that period of time... and therefore, you might not feel too motivated to keep drawing because everything looks like shit.

So it's probably a good thing that I waited until tonight to do sort of a big art project for my life drawing class. Even though it was due last week... except I didn't do it or go to class because I was almost-literally dying of some mysterious illness. Which is brilliant because I did get my flu shot.... and apparently it was $20 wasted because I was predestined to catch something else anyway.

So now I need to go sit in front of my mirror and draw myself. Why do art classes always want you to do a self-portrait? It's kind of old. And I don't really want to draw myself. I'm sort of boring to draw. Besides, some smartass is going to comment that it doesn't look like me, because they think that is a good critique and that you're always supposed to critique artists.

I'm not bitter about anything.

MY LIFE IS SO AWESOME.

MORE STALKING.

So... Nap shows us his locker. Approx. 2 weeks before I gave him his picture. (gahhh!) Is it really ridiculous of me to want to know if it's in there now? Probably. But I can't help it.

Also, hilarious how he's bagging on his best buddy Jeff Mathis' locker. I would pay to see Mathis in those boots.

ALSO, I guess I should mail him a loveletter fanletter (with more fanart?), since he might send me a signed card or something.

I need a life.

magical moments at D'land

Oct. 16th, 2009 | 11:09 am

Yesterday was a REALLY interesting day.

I had college program class in the morning, and MAN I love that class. We did this "test" called the i-Sight, which places you in a "dimension of behavior". So you can be a Direct & Active person, an Interested & Lively person, a Steady and Cooperative person, or a Concerned and Correct person. I was very much a Direct & Active person (a "D"), I discovered, and when we were going through the traits of this group, everything seemed to fit me so perfectly. For the first time, I seemed to have a clearer idea of who I am and why I do things. And I feel okay about the way I am. I always feel this pressure to be more like my friends, who are OBVIOUSLY Steady & Cooperative people (I bet if I gave them the test, they totally would be)... but the thing is, I'm just NOT patient and emotion-based and "nice" the way they are. Which is totally fine. I'm starting to see the way I do things in a better light. It works for me. And I don't need to be anything else.

Some of the things mentioned for the "D" group on the paper:
Likes to solve problems and get quick results
Tend to question the rules
Like direct answers, variety, and independence
Like being in charge of your life
Know what you want and go after it
Like to test yourself with new challenges

My professor explained it as:
NOT patient
Very quick shopper
Emotions "helicopter"-- you get upset very quickly, but you're also OVER it very quickly (and I thought I was just a tad bipolar)
Makes quick decisions
Doesn't like to talk a lot, and is very to-the-point
Gets things done very quickly, though not always very carefully (see mom? I can't help it!)

Of course, I AM rambling on a lot here... must be my "Interested & Lively" dimension kicking in (I have one of those too,it's just not as strong as my "D").

Anyway, I got out of class at 12:30, and I wasn't scheduled to work until 5:45. So I was hanging out at D'land with my friend Kyle for the afternoon, and I decided to go get an ice cream cone at Gibson. I went in there and we were in line for a while... and once I got up toward the front, I waved at my friend who was scooping, and she was like, "THERE SHE IS!!!" The lead hurried over and was like, "someone called out, and I need you to start as soon as possible!" And since I had no real excuse NOT to start early, I did. Twenty-five minutes later, I was in costume and back at Gibson to work. The leads who came in later heard the story and thought it was the funniest thing ever.

I had some really amazing guests last night. For whatever reason I was feeling kinda chatty and ended up having conversations with a few of them while they were waiting on their ice cream. One family had a nine-year-old girl with them, and I was talking to her a lot. She was really cool kid. One guy was AMAZED at how happy I was (I don't know... I get in a really good mood at Gibson sometimes. Inexplicable.), and he was like, "you must be new, huh?" I told him I've been working here almost five months, and he couldn't believe it. He said something like, "I bet you come in every day, your eyes twinkling, singing zippidy-do-dah..." I gave him his ice cream, and as he was leaving, he mouthed "I love you". HAHAHA. Weird.

Later on, I was making waffle cups (we have this row of waffle irons and we make the cups in front of sort of a window, so the guests can watch). There was a girl (probably about six years old) who seemed particularly interested in what I was doing, so I stepped it up for her a little. I pulled the waffle off the the iron, put it on the "ring", and stuck the shaper thingy in the middle. I held it up for her, so she could see (her eyes got huge), and then took the finished cup out and held it up again, saying "Ta-da!" She FLIPPED. And we did this several times! One time a waffle came out of the iron too small, so I folded it into a taco and pretended to eat it, and she thought it was hilarious. I waved goodbye to her when she got her ice cream, and she waved back and smiled. Totally made my night.

At about 9 PM, I went across the street to close the line at Cone Shop (a one-person-run smaller version of Gibson), and the line was pretty long, so I ended up talking to the last guy for kind of a while. These two young people came up to me a few minutes later (I don't know if they were a couple), and I told them I was sorry but we're closing... they were really bummed because they had been looking forward to getting an ice cream sandwich (which Gibson doesn't have). So I let them be the last in line, and we ended up talking all the way up until they got to the window. We were talking about ice cream, and I told them about how this guy at Rite Aid shoots the ice cream into the air and catches it in a cup, and we decided we need to do that here at D'land. And I don't even remember what else we talked about, but they were really awesome. I told my friend Mike (who was working there) to make them an extra-magical ice cream sandwich, which he did, and the girl took a picture of the guy, me, Mike, and the ice cream.

After that, I spent over an hour, maybe two hours, cleaning Cone Shop. So that's where the fun ended. haha

Good stuff though.

I got home after midnight (having left home yesterday morning at 7 AM... jeez) and went straight to bed, fully dressed. This morning I woke up to the roar of two military helicopters flying directly over us, very low, and landing in one of the school's soccer fields. I was watching them fly over, and I was like, GAHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm supposed to be a PILOT!!!

Speaking of helicopters, here come a couple more. They must be practicing landing in soccer fields.

One gallon of coke and a bag of sour gummie worms later...

Oct. 13th, 2009 | 12:49 am

We went to see Toy Story 1 & 2 in 3D. And it was AMAZING. Holy bananas. I love Woody. So much. And Pixar. Pixar is my soulmate.

In less exciting news, I bought myself web hosting and a domain name and such, but for some reason I can't get the FTP to work. It is incredibly frustrating because I put the site on my business cards and need to at least get a placeholder up, but nothing is ever remotely easy. And it makes me feel like a dumbass because there is so much to web design that is still beyond me. Bleh.

I drank like a gallon of coke at the theater, so maybe I should use the caffeine to study for my archaeology midterm on Wednesday. That class has nothing tangible to it. I can't think of anything I've actually LEARNED. He just keeps talking about paradigms, and I cannot for the life of me remember what a paradigm IS. But apparently it is what archaeology is all about.

Thank goodness I'm an animation major.

Today I took a pretty epic step.

I was in Art Heaven, a.k.a. the Art Supply Warehouse, a.k.a. my favorite art store EVARRR...

And I bought a $28 portfolio in which to send drawings to CalArts.

Possum sketches! Wootwoot!

I did a story outline in one of my life drawing classes yesterday (I am productive, indeed)... but having watched some more old Mickey cartoons today, I realized that I really need to let go a little more and embrace the absurd. I need to get more in that mindset... it's just the complete opposite of the epic WWI story-stuff I spend so much time obsessing over. Cartoons are more fun though x)

--------

Long... long... day. This morning I got to see Walt's apartment in D'land. It's supposed to be sort of a secret, although everybody knows about it, and you generally have to be some sort of dignitary to see it. Yay for the college program! So that was sort of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

I did have to work afterward though... the park hours got extended, so I got extended into overtime. I was scooping, too, so my wrist is pretty sore, as one might imagine. And I am very exhausted and sticky.

Time for sleeeeeeeep.

P.S.: dark chocolate hot chocolate is AMAZING!

Well, after surfing the web for a bit, I thought of a cool topic for my archaeology paper: Napoleon in Egypt, and his gang's effects on [what is later] Egyptology. Maybe? They found the Rosetta Stone, yes? I also understand they messed some stuff up, too.

I dunno, it makes me want to draw pictures. Checkitout:

How awesome is that? Someday I will make pretty art like that. Maybe.

Yeahhhh, I never post anymore. No time. Nothing interesting.

Work work work school school school. I'm struggling to find the energy to keep it up. I cannot WAIT for this semester to be over. Ulghh. I need a day off.

Liking life drawing a lot, for the time being. Today was a pretty good day... making friends in each class, improving a bit artistically... all that good stuff. An excess of naked, saggy old men is starting to wear on me, but I'm willing to look past that.

Lots of homework to catch up on, though. I always do a crappy job on homework... which is lame. One of my professors was like, "I KNOW you can do better than that." Maybe it's a lack of peer pressure. And motivation. You know, the usual. TRYING to be better about that.

Need to come up with an essay topic for Archaeology. I'm thinking I want to write about Egyptology in the early 20th century. A topic which strikes a few of my fancies. Obviously.

ALSO, I am really annoyed with facebook and my addiction to it, and how it seems to be bringing me a bunch of bad news I wouldn't otherwise receive. I'm trying to cut back on it, which isn't too hard at the moment.

ALSO, I will post some art soon.
